FRIENDS ‘N FUN  provides guided and supported recreational activities for children and young adults with special needs in the Jewish community.

Together with our dedicated
teen and young adult volunteers from throughout the Twin Cities Jewish community, we offer our participants meaningful social programming with same age peers. Our volunteers act as mentors, helping friendships form in a guided fun and exciting atmosphere.

The program also provides much needed short term respite care for the parents of our participants.

SHA'ARIM, our parent
organization, provides resource room education services for Jewish children with special needs who want to learn in a mainstream Jewish educational setting. In addition, consultation, screenings and parent advocacy are provided.

We are committed to providing an opportunity for every Jewish child and young adult with special needs to:
• Receive a Jewish education
• Experience inclusion as a vital and active participant in the classroom
• Socialize and be part of his/her peer group
• Participate in a rich and meaningful life within the Jewish community

With inclusion at the forefront of our mission, Sha’arim partners with 7 Jewish educational programs in the Twin Cities.

Our partner schools include Bais Yaakov, Bet Shalom, Lubavitch Cheder, Talmud Torah of Minneapolis, Temple Israel, Torah Academy. We also partner with JCC Inclusion Department and JHAP (Jewish Housing and Programming).

We also offer
DARKAYNU programming for students who are unable to attend mainstream Jewish educational programming alongside typical peers after all possible interventions have been attempted.

NEW OPPORTUNITY

Sha'arim is excited to be moving forward with the next steps of Our Thrift Shop Venture under the auspices of Sha'arim.

Our primary aim is to empower and enable adults to learn and achieve their individualized vocational potential by providing meaningful employment for adults with special needs. We will provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment with options to facilitate employment training, internships, and the ability to serve as Ambassadors of our mission. This will lead to greater independence and new freedom of choice for employment, within our mission.

Lastly, we will model our venture around Jewish based practices which encourages Jewish pride and sets standards which envelops their mind, body and soul.

We will continue to keep you informed via email as our program evolves and develops. Stay tuned………
